ANFAS, Spanish acronym for Association in favour of people with intellectual disability of Navarre, is a non-profit association whose mission is to "guarantee the support and services needed, in a context of exercising rights and social inclusion, in order to help intellectually and developmental disabled persons and their families to accomplish their own life projects and improve their quality of life as citizens of Navarre".
ANFAS belongs to FEAPS, Spanish Confederation of Organizations in favour of intellectually disabled people, through its regional federation, FEAPS Navarra.
ANFAS develops a series of programs and services aimed to:
· Intellectually disabled persons (IDPs): early intervention, support in adaptive abilities, psycho-motricity and music therapy, computing, leisure, holidays, self-management, support to independent life, housing, house life skills, job training for IDPs and sports.
· Their families: information and counselling, training families and family relief.
· Society in general: social awareness, volunteer programs and hostel.
ANFAS also develops all those activities that are the basis of the associative movement, specially the defence of the rights of people with intellectual disability and their families.
ANFAS has 2,867 members and operates in all Navarre with delegations in Pamplona, Tudela, Tafalla, Estella, Sangüesa, Baztán Bidasoa and Sakana. We have 75 professionals and the priceless cooperation of around 700 volunteers during the year.
ANFAS was established in 1961 so in 2011 we celebrated its 50th anniversary.
The 31st of December 1970 it was designed as an association of public interest.
In 1999 the Government of Navarre awarded ANFAS the Gold Medal of Navarre for its work. The same year we were awarded the prize for volunteers by the Institute of Navarre for Sports and Youth.
In 2008 we obtained the UNE EN ISO 9001:2000 Certificate.
In 2009 we were awarded the consolation prize to the Quality of Social Services in Navarre for our pilgrim's hostel.
