ANFAS hostel in Estella is an oasis in the exhausting Way of St James; a place where the pilgrim can recover from the long walking hours of the first stages... In this remarkable hostel, pilgrims have the opportunity to live experiences that will mark the adventure they started a few days before when they took the backpack for the first time.
In this special hostel, pilgrims will share their stories and anecdotes with the intellectually disabled persons who, during the five months that the hostel is open, volunteer daily as hospitaleros, supported by volunteers, provide an excellent and charming service to the pilgrim.
The hospitalero is in charge of dealing with the pilgrim and his tasks are receptioning, assigning the bed, checking-in and giving information about the rules and services of the hostel.
In order to encourage the contact between pilgrims and hospitaleros and the knowledge of each other we make different activities and workshops together:
- Visits to Estella
- Massages workshops
- Cooking workshops
- Board games
The ANFAS hostel in Estella was first opened in 2004, with the hope of offering a means to the inclusion and participation of intellectually disabled people in society. At the same time, it is a good choice for pilgrims looking for a small hostel, with a close and friendly atmosphere. The 34 pilgrims that every night sleep in the bunks of the wide dorm of the hostel can enjoy the comfort of the facilities and share an unforgettable time with the intellectually disabled people that volunteer as hospitaleros in the hostel, walking their own way every day.
Since its opening in 2004 more than 21,000 pilgrims have been welcomed by more than one hundred volunteers.
Live the remarkable experience of walking a few steps of your Camino together with people with disabilities in the ANFAS hostel in Estella!
